We Rotary welcomes Dr. Gail M. Ervin Rotary Peace Fellow

We  Rotary Welcomes

June 11th

Dr. Gail M. Ervin
Rotary Peace Fellow

Gail Ervin is Principal of the Ervin Consulting Group and is Team Leader for the Mediators Beyond Borders Kenya Initiative. Gail has over 30 years’ experience in environmental planning, and environmental and public policy mediation, and has been involved in conflict resolution capacity building efforts on five continents. In 2010 Gail was awarded a Rotary Peace Fellowship and spent three months at the Rotary Peace Center at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.  Since becoming a Peace Fellow, Gail has traveled regularly to Kenya to implement the Warriors to Peace Guardians Initiative, a long-term, systemic peacebuilding initiative developed during her doctoral research on indigenous peacebuilding.  This research identified the unique characteristics of pastoralist designed and led peacebuilding process, steeped in practical wisdom and local cultural sensitivities, and how the international community can better support such efforts. The Warriors to Peace Guardians Initiative involves engaging volunteer pastoralist peacebuilders in catalyzing neo-traditional peace efforts in remote arid and semi-arid areas of Kenya subject to cattle rustling and political violence, by building a regional network of local peace guardians committed to sustaining peace, and connecting them to development partners to provide “peace dividends” that eliminate the drivers of violent conflict.
